We wrote these terms to be clear about how ScentSwaps works, not to confuse you with legal jargon. If something doesn't make sense, email us at hello@scentswaps.com and we'll explain it in plain English.
What is ScentSwaps?
ScentSwaps is a marketplace where people buy and sell fragrances. We're the platform — we don't own the items being sold. Think of us like eBay but specifically for fragrances, with built-in payment protection.
Accounts
You need an account to buy or sell. Use accurate information — we verify emails and payment details. One account per person. If we catch fake accounts, we shut them down.
Why: Real people with real accounts means a safer marketplace for everyone.
Listing & Selling
When you list a fragrance, describe it accurately. Include clear photos showing the actual item, fill level, and any imperfections. If we or buyers repeatedly find your listings don't match what you send, we'll remove your selling privileges.
Counterfeit items are an instant ban. No warnings, no second chances. The fragrance community is built on trust.
Buying & Payment Protection
When you buy something, your payment is held in escrow — the seller doesn't get paid until you receive the item and confirm it's as described (or 72 hours pass without a dispute).
Fees: Sellers pay a 12% transaction fee (deducted from their payout). Buyers pay zero fees — just the item price plus shipping. The ScentSwaps Guarantee is included at no extra cost to buyers. Stripe charges ~2.9% + $0.30 processing.
Why these fees: The 12% transaction fee keeps ScentSwaps running and funds the ScentSwaps Guarantee — our buyer protection program that lets us refund buyers when things go wrong without the seller having to eat the cost.
Shipping
Sellers must ship within 48 hours of a sale. If they don't, the order is automatically cancelled and the buyer is refunded. Currently we only support US domestic shipping because fragrances are classified as hazardous materials for international air transport.
Why US only: USPS prohibits international fragrance shipping entirely. UPS and FedEx require hazardous materials certification that individual sellers typically don't have. We're working on ground shipping to Canada as our next expansion.
Disputes
If something's wrong with your order (not as described, suspected counterfeit, damaged in shipping, or never arrived), open a dispute within 72 hours of delivery. Both sides submit evidence, and our team makes a decision.
We try to be fair. We look at photos, descriptions, tracking info, and the users' history. Our decisions are final, but you can always file a credit card chargeback as a last resort.
What we won't tolerate
- Selling counterfeit fragrances
- Creating fake reviews or manipulating ratings
- Multiple accounts or identity fraud
- Harassment of other users
- Attempting to circumvent our payment system
Account deletion
You can delete your account anytime from Settings, as long as you don't have open orders or active disputes. We anonymize your data and remove your email. Reviews you've left will stay (attributed to "[deleted]") because they help other buyers.
Changes to these terms
We'll update these terms as ScentSwaps evolves. Major changes will be announced via email. Continuing to use the platform after changes means you accept the new terms.
